World Book Day Celebrations
It was on the 11th March 2014 that we celebrated World Book Day!
Here at St. Colman’s P.S. we all love to read and so this was a very exciting day for us :-). The theme of the day was to be: ‘Snuggle Up and Read’ and so we all got to wear our pyjamas to school (money raised will be donated to St. Mark’s High School, Kenya appeal). Not only did we get to wear our pyjamas but we also got to bring our favourite bed time story to school.
A spectular display of cosy pyjamas and onies were on show from both children and staff. Master Savage is reported to have said, “Unfortunately I have an important meeting and so can’t wear my onies!”
In school we participated in paired reading, the children in two different classes paired together to read to a pupil in the other class.
For example :
children in Primary One paired with children in Primary Seven,
children in Primary Two paired with children in Primary Five,
children in Primary Three paired with children in Primary Six and
children in Primary Four paired with children in Primary Seven.
The venue for this paired reading was in the Assembly hall, were a child from each class came together to read their favourite book to each other.
A wonderful day was had by all. Well done to Mrs McGrath (literacy co-ordinator who organised the event) and everyone involved! 🙂
